
Since 1984 I have had a love of Alaskan fireweed. A unique and breath-taking reminder of cycles, fireweed graces the turning of our Alaska summers 'round the corner into Fall. Like the gentle rocking motion of a cradle, fireweed returns to sing to us the chant of embracing next chapters of our lives. Fireweed bestows blended hues of royal fuschia and lavendar that blanket our August days and offer a rythmic comfort. Actual photographs and artist rendorings attempt to capture fireweed, yet nothing does justice to this special plant. Somehow fireweed gently remind us to cherish each season and to live forward into our days with tenacity and determination. And, somehow it is a sweet serendipity that in a random spot on Turnagain Arm -- where I planted spring wild flower seeds in honor of my friend (whose life ended in 2005)... instead, fireweed has grown in that location, i.e. a sweet lullaby ...
